Pushing Forward

Brief
Pushing Forward is a report by Jahnine Davis and Listen Up addressing adultification in child safeguarding - a phenomenon where children, particularly Black children and those from marginalised backgrounds, are perceived as older than they are, with serious consequences for their safety and welfare. Listen Up needed their findings communicated in a way that would help those working across education, care, policing, and the justice system truly understand this complex issue and drive meaningful change within their organisations.
Approach
To do this work justice, I immersed myself in the subject matter. I needed to fully understand adultification, the communities affected, and how the findings needed to land with different audiences. Working closely with Jahnine Davis and her team throughout, I designed a suite of illustrations, graphics, and layouts that brought the research to life. The result was a complete resource pack, including a main report, short guide, and PowerPoint training presentation.

Outcome
The resource pack is now being used in training sessions and safeguarding practice across key institutions. By making this complex and urgent research truly accessible, the work is helping professionals recognise adultification, challenge it, and ultimately better protect the children most at risk.
