ICRIR
Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery
Role: Creative Direction, Design, Illustration, Icon Design, Copyediting, Project Management
Brief
The ICRIR was established in 2024 to investigate deaths and serious injuries related to the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Its purpose is to support victims, families, and survivors in finding out what happened. The Commission needed to communicate complex, sensitive information to a wide audience. Every piece of material had to be clear, accessible, and deeply respectful of the trauma people had experienced.
Approach
From the outset, I took a trauma-informed and accessibility led approach. This was serious, sensitive work, and every design decision reflected that. Working closely with the Commission team, I got to understand their audiences and what they needed to say. From there, I designed and produced a full suite of print and digital materials. Reports, leaflets, flowcharts, folders, and design packs. I also developed a bespoke set of icons that brought clarity and consistency across everything.
Outcome
The Commission now has a clear, human-centred visual language across a full suite of printed and digital materials. Reports, guides, leaflets, and design assets are all accessible, consistent, and ready to reach the people who need them most. Work that ensures some of the most important and sensitive information is communicated with clarity, respect, and care.
